About For Dry Skin

There are several things that you can do for your dry skin, beyond just buying and using the right skin care products. Here are some tips to help you ward away parched pelts and achieve supple, healthy skin:

  1. Take showers the right way. Soaking yourself in water can actually make your dry skin worse! Limit your bath to 10 minutes maximum and use warm instead of hot water. Wash using a gentle cleanser, but don’t use too much to have a thick lather. And when you’re done, don’t rub yourself dry with a towel—just use a towel to blot the water away.

  2. Apply moisturizer at the right time: after a shower. Applying moisturizer while your skin is still moist will help trap the water in your body, preventing it from evaporating. Follow the same thing after washing your hands and swimming. And make sure that the moisturizer you’re using has glycerin as the first ingredient, as this substance helps your skin to hold on to more moisture.

  3. Rinse off after every swim. Before slathering on lotion after a few laps in the pool, make sure to go for a quick rinse with mild soap. This helps wash away chlorine, which can dry your skin. If possible, opt to swim in chlorine-free water to minimize dryness.

  4. Change your clothes or detergent. Dry skin can get irritated by rough fabrics or the harsh detergents you use to wash them. So wear clothes made of cotton or silk and switch to a hypoallergenic laundry soap to prevent irritation.

  5. Eat right, drink right. Make sure to stay hydrated in this tropical heat by drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water every day. Meanwhile, eating fish—which contains essential fatty acids—can also protect your skin from the harsh environment.
