About Contour

Contouring’s all the rage recently. But before you buy a contouring palette from BeautyMNL, you better keep these tips in mind:

  1. It’s vastly different from strobing. These two makeup techniques have different goals. Strobing is basically highlighting, aiming to bring your features to the fore while making your harsh angles appear softer. Meanwhile, contouring is the opposite; it creates a more sculpted look for your face by adding shadows strategically. That said, if you’re a morena beauty you can still opt for contouring; you just have to focus on highlighting first rather than adding more shadow.

  2. A good foundation is important. Even if you have the best contouring palette in the world, if your base foundation doesn’t match your skin tone, then it won’t work. This is especially important to note if you’re getting a two-color palette that doesn’t have a base included. And if you are getting a palette, make sure that what you get isn’t too drastic from your usual non-contour makeup. One shade darker for shadows and one shade lighter for highlighter will do the trick.

  3. Suck in your cheeks when applying the darker color underneath your cheekbones. This can help you put that deeper shade in the right spot: just under the hollowed areas.

  4. With contouring, you can actually hide a double-chin. Yes, contouring is not just for making your jawline look slimmer. Add a darker shade under your chin and paint down your neck to hide that unsightly bulge.

  5. Blending is key. If you don’t blend all that makeup on your face properly, you might end up looking like a clown. That’s why it’s important to have the right set of brushes for blending—have one for applying makeup and another one to blend them all. Can’t blend well using a brush? Try using a sponge instead. And of course, practice makes perfect.
