About Lip Color

With lip products available in so many shades and hues today, sometimes it’s hard to choose which one you should use. Hence, here are 5 guide questions to help you select the right lip color:

  1. What’s your skin tone? Just like other kinds of makeup, the color of your lipstick should complement your complexion and undertones. For example, a cool red or a sandy beige works well for morena skin, while those with lighter skin can opt for nudes that have a shade of pink. After narrowing down your options based on complexion, you can narrow it further using your undertones. For example, those with warm medium complexions can go for bronze shades, while cool medium undertones can also go for pinks.

  2. What’s your lip shape or size? One general rule of thumb: dark hues make lips look smaller, while bright colors make them appear bigger. So if you already have very plump lips, opt for a nude shade instead.

  3. What’s the makeup for the rest of your face? Don’t make the mistake of overdoing the makeup for your entire face. If you already highlight your lips, go easy on your eyes, and vice-versa.

  4. Where are you going? Your lip color should be appropriate for the occasion. For example, that orange lip color may be too bright for a corporate setting. That nude shade, meanwhile, may be too generic for a crazy night out with the girls. Hence, it’s okay to have 3 or 4 colors in your makeup stash so you’d have many options.

  5. When are you wearing? Like eyeshadow, there are also daytime and evening looks for lipstick. For a daytime look in the office, select warm and creamy shades, as these will be seen under stronger lights. Meanwhile, evening light is softer; hence, a strong brick red is a wise choice for tanned complexions.
