Keeping your oily skin healthy isn’t just about toning down the shine. Here are 7 tips to keep it in the pink of health:

  1. Wash your face regularly, but not too much. Cleansing it in the morning and evening should be fine. But if you go beyond that, you’ll end up drying your skin, causing the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. And on that note, choose a cleanser that contains 2% salicylic acid, as won’t dry your skin.

  2. Exfoliate once a week. This removes the dirt, residue, dead skin, and excess oil that can clog your pores. But just like cleansing, don’t do it too much, as it can again trigger excess sebum production. And on that same note, don’t scrub your face.

  3. Follow up exfoliation with a face mask. Not only these masks contain essences and nutrients for healthier skin—they also absorb all the excess oil off your skin.

  4. Use a light moisturizer. Contrary to popular belief, oily skin needs moisturizer; you just have to choose the right one. So stay away from heavy creams and opt for water-based ones instead.

  5. Go easy on the makeup. Putting too many beauty products on your oily skin will only cause a breakout, especially when the weather’s sunny. Hence, a barely-there look is a good bet—you can just opt for a tinted moisturizer instead of full foundation, or make a switch to mineral powder.

  6. Don’t skip the sunscreen. Putting a little on your face can actually help control oil production, on top of helping prevent age spots and blemishes.

  7. Mind your diet. As they say, what you put in is what you put out. So load up on fruits and veggies, especially those containing vitamin A like carrots and spinach, to help control oil at the source.
