That luxurious tan might be glamorous and indulgent, but it can be incredibly rough on your skin. An after-sun moisturizer can help do wonders to restore and rejuvenate skin after a rough weekend session of surf, sand, and sun. Here are a few tips on finding and choosing an after-sun product that’s right for you.
1.) It’s like it says on the label – after sun. After sun moisturizers are not sunblock. They’re meant to be used after some time out in the sun and are not meant to replace a good sunblock. They may occasionally have an SPF, but this is typically quite low compared to what you might find on a good sunblock.
2.) After sun products reduce redness and prevent peeling. A regular moisturizer can do the same, but not quite in the way a specialized after sun lotion can.
3.) If you’re going out again, apply after sun products before sunscreen. Applying after sun products immediately after applying sunscreen can reduce the effectiveness of both products. Instead, apply a small amount of after sun moisturizer first, making sure your skin absorbs most of the after sun product first. Then you can safely layer the sunscreen on top.
