About Gifts

Gift-giving can be far more complex than it seems on the surface. It most often involves a fair deal of social context and has to take into account the situation of both the giver and receiver. Here are a few do’s and don’ts for gift-giving:

1.) Do pay attention to the receiver. You want the gift to be something that reflects on the needs and desires of the receiver. Just giving them whatever you can get your hands on can come across as perfunctory at best, and egotistical at worst.

2.) Do check out the receiver’s hobbies. Do they like cooking? Maybe some choice or unusual spices and ingredients might be appreciated. Did they complain the other day that it was hard to find the right makeup brushes? Get them a brush they will actually use.

3.) Do remove price tags, if any. While this isn’t a problem with products bought through, BeautyMNL it still bears talking about in a general sense. Carefully remove persistent price stickers by aiming a hair dryer set on high for a few seconds to loosen up the adhesive.

1.) Don’t be too lavish. In many contexts, lavish gifts can be seen as a power play or an attempt to buy goodwill. Gifts ideally, should be a personal token of care or appreciation, not a way to show off.

2.) Don’t shop for gifts at the last minute. Even when you’re shopping online, it pays to shop early for guaranteed availability and to give you more time to think about what the receiver would truly appreciate.

3.) Don’t be overly intimate. While you can feel free to give anything you want to your spouse or lover, refrain from giving coworkers and family anything that might be taken as offensive. Gag gifts are fine, but only in a small minority of cases, so be extra careful if you want to attempt this. Chances are – you shouldn’t.
