ABOUT BAGS

The best way to keep your valuable gadgets safe while on the road is to tuck them neatly inside a good bag. But how can you pick one that’s right for your needs? Here are a few things to look out for:

  1. Size.
The most important consideration when getting a bag for your gadgets is its size. The laptop bag should fit your laptop, tablet, or DLSR parts snugly; this guarantees your electronics won’t slide or bump around. Yet don’t get one that’s too snug either or you’ll have lots of trouble just trying to pack your gadget. For reference, a bag with the following dimensions: 39 cm (width) x 28 cm (height) x 8 cm (depth) is good enough for a 14-inch laptop.
On a side note, if you’re a frequent traveler, it’s also important to check if your bag is compact enough to be considered a carry-on. This means that your bag should fit inside a space measuring 20 inches wide, 17 inches deep, and 11 inches tall.

  2. Material.
There are two factors that come into play here—weight and waterproofing. Some bags weigh heavier than others due to the material they’re made of, while waterproofing is a must to protect your stuff from the elements. Good options are ones that are made from polyester, which is usually lightweight and water-resistant.

  3. Compartments.
Of course, the bag shouldn’t fit your laptop or camera alone. It should also have enough compartments for the charger, mouse, extra lenses, and other accessories you may need.

  4. Enclosures.
A laptop bag that can be closed with a zipper is your best bet, as it allows you to keep everything secure inside while still allowing easy access.

  5. Straps and other accessories.
Most bags for gadgets often have a free shoulder strap, on top of the two hand straps that are built in. However, if you’re carrying a heavy laptop and you need to walk long distances, make sure that the strap is wide enough to distribute the weight evenly. This would help prevent back and shoulder pain.
