While most handbags sold here on BeautyMNL are of great quality, you can extend their lifespan more if you take proper care of them. Hence, here are some tips you should keep in mind to help you keep your bag in tip-top shape.

  1. Determine the type of material your bag is made of before cleaning it.
Since most handbags are made of leather, the best advice is to wipe them down every other day with a soft cloth. This will prevent dirt from sticking permanently to your bag. You can also use a leather cleaner or cream to wipe the bag clean once in a while.
For fabric bags, wipe stains away using warm water and mild soap on a clean cloth. As much as possible, don’t soak the bag together with the laundry. The fabric’s dye may get washed out and appear faded, or the bag’s lining may separate from the body and end up puffing out.

  2. Store your bag properly.
Don’t just stuff them into your closet when you’re done using them, as this can deform the bag. So stuff your bag with paper to prop it up. If possible, don’t use newspaper, as this can stain the bag. Add a few pouches of silica gel, too, to prevent the formation of mold.

  3. If your leather handbag got wet, don’t use a hairdryer to dry it.
Exposing it to a blower’s hot air can create cracks in the material. Just wipe the bag down and let it dry naturally.

  4. Rotate bag use.
No matter how sturdy a bag is, if you use it every day, it will get worn down fast. So alternate it with another bag every week or month to make sure that your bags will get some rest—and to mix up your look as well.
