The Cracking Monkey brings you all-natural fair trade pili nuts in shell. Their products are made by Philippine artisans, and are one of the only food companies in the world to use no plastic and create virtually no waste.
I received this as a sample from BeautyMNL. I've tasted pili nut products before, candied pili nuts or those that are found in cookies or breads. I was honestly not a fan because they just tasted like ordinary nuts coated with lots of sugar and most tasted like caramelized sugar. I like this product because there is no sugar. I am trying to avoid sugar if I can by substituting sugar with honey as much as I can (because sugar is the anti-Christ). This product has a fun packaging and you don't need to get a knife to crack it. There are already indentations on the pili nut itself where you are supposed to put the lever to crack it. I was impressed by how much care was put into the packaging, the labels, the markings on each individual pili nuts. I have encountered one or two pili nuts though which seem to have a different taste than the others and one which when I opened seemed to have some sort of mold. So I didn't eat it. All in all, impressive packaging and I liked the plain pili nuts as compared to sugared ones.about 2 months ago
This is a very clever and interesting approach on pili nuts and it makes me proud to be a Bicolana. I like that it has clear and concise instruction cause getting this product first hand can be confusing. I remember scratching my head as as I didn't know how to use the tool. I, personally, have not seen a pili nut so it's really an "organic" feel to it, being able to crack it open using that simple tool. It wasn't as difficult as I hope it was and the nuts often comes out whole not like when you crack other walnuts open. I imagine this as a product that you can use a unique give away.2 months ago
