Rice alternative, corn appearance

It's nature at its finest. Really, the best way to describe it to a non-eater is like corn, but with a rice-like texture when chewed. Used this to wean myself off of rice a year and 50 lbs ago, but this was more of a help psychologically than, say, an actual rice alternative. It needs more time to cook, but I feel less satisfied with a half cup of rice than I am with the same portion size of sorghum grains, for half the calories and one or two grams more of protein. If you're looking to expand your horizons, and you're willing to risk your wallet and your rice cooker for a nice change of phase, this is for you.

cheaper than other rice alternatives!

This is probably the cheapest rice substitute you can get basing on price per kilogram. It doesn't really have a taste so make sure to add salt before cooking. It has an interesting texture, kinda like cooked mung beans but a bit more firm. It is also very filling, when I have this during a meal I eat way less.

Better as a Snack

I've tried this as a rice substitute but none in our family liked it. We cooked it according to package directions, it takes a while longer than other grains. It was like a hard garbanzo and quite dry. But as a snack, it was fab! This is better than popcorn because it's healthier. We use the microwave. We put 1/4 cup into a brown paper bag, with our microwave the perfect time would be 2 to 3 minutes on medium high heat. I had to test it out 3 times to get the best result, I suggest you do the same too. Then I pour the cooked sorghum popcorn into a bowl, mix in some extra virgin olive oil and sea salt. Healthy Yummy! Even the small ones that don't pop can be eaten and are not as hard as those popcorn kernels. Also one good thing, you know that annoying popcorn hull that gets in between the teeth? There's none of those with the sorghum. There's so much in a pack of this ang it's so worth it. I also make this for my kid, so much healthier than junk food. Sometimes I mix parmesan, curry powder etc etc. There's no limit to what flavor you can come up with.

Good

Wouldn’t really substitute it for rice that’s paired with ulam because it feels like eating corn. But my husband actually prefers this than quinoa or adlay. I think because it doesn’t have a strong taste. I did try it using for champorado, soup and salads it was yummy! I love that you can also pop it and it turns out like mini popcorns. I just add parmesan cheese and tadah! Instant snack.

Game changer if you want to switch to a healthy lifestyle

This is a game changer! I want to start a healthy lifestyle but I also love rice. I cannot live without rice. Good thing I discovered Sorghum. It is a good alternative to rice although I suggest that you eat it right away. I feel full for a longer period so I tend to eat less after eating this. Will buy again!
