In 2015, Alf Yaptinchay decided to leave the corporate life and go into the food business with Chili Chili Bang Bang, one of the first Filipino businesses to specialize in selling homemade chili. Named after the 1968 British adventure film for kids, the brand is a home-based, mom ‘n’ pop shop effort: the product of a partnership between Alf and his aunt, Milena Garcia, who masterminds all of their comforting recipes.
Even before Chili Chili Bang Bang, Milena’s chilis were a hit with her friends. From time to time, she would even tweak her recipe to suit different tastes, adding corn to fresh batches for that sweet-and-spicy flavor that Pinoy palates love. Seeing the enticing potential for Milena’s homemade chili, Alf got to work setting up the business, selling jars at bazaars and markets.
Today, Chili Chili Bang Bang has over three different varieties, ranging from “The Original” to “The Big Bang,” each with their own spicy kick.
