You've Got to See This Gorgeous Ash Gray Hair Makeover
Remember when silvery hair was seen as just another sign of aging? Oh, how times have changed! Today, it’s a coveted color you can rock any time, at any age. And if you don’t believe us, this mane makeover should convince you otherwise.
People, meet Martha. This week, she switched things by trading her caramel locks for a full head of gray. But not just any type of gray—we’re talking about that soft sterling, almost metallic, ultra-Instagrammable ash gray. For the full deets, we tagged along to Martha’s appointment at The List, an urban-chic salon in Bonifacio Global City.
The results were other-worldly, to say the least. So, if you’re curious to see the drastic transformation (and we do mean drastic), watch the experts work their magic on Martha, below!
STEP 1: BLEACHING
First things first: bleaching. This process lightened the hair strands to make the gray dye appear vibrant and color-true.
Now, if you’re worried about the damage this can cause, don’t. At The List, they mixed Olaplex No.1 Bond Multiplier with their bleach. This strengthening treatment prevented Martha’s hair from becoming brittle. It also helped repair any damage caused by her previous dye job.
STEP 2: BASE COLOR
During the bleaching process, the stylists left thin sections of hair between the foils. Then, they applied a medium brown Davines color over these unbleached sections. These would blend in with the ash gray later on. According to The List, this technique would add a soft-focus finish to the entire look.
STEP 3: FIRST RINSE
Once the base color had set, Martha’s hair was rinsed with a sulfate-free shampoo.
STEP 4: QUICK BLOWDRY
To help it better absorb color, it was very quickly (but gently) blown out.
STEP 5: ASH GRAY COLOR
Immediately following the blow-dry was the main event. The List used a beautiful warm ash gray by Davines to dye Martha’s hair. It was left to set for about 15 to 20 minutes.
STEP 6: TREATMENT
To supplement the Bond Multiplier mixed into the bleach earlier, Martha’s hair was coated with Olaplex No. 2 Bond Perfector. This treatment relinked broken hair bonds to make the color last longer.
STEP 7: FINAL RINSE
Five minutes after the treatment, a final rinse was performed with sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. This removed any excess chemicals left on the hair.
STEP 8: FINAL BLOWDRY AND STYLING
As the pièce de résistance, the stylist gave Martha an edgy new haircut to complement the gray and finished it off with a sleek blowout. Look!
We think it’s safe say that we’ve found our new color crush. Ooh-la-la.
