In late 2018, Jennie (of hugely popular K-pop girl group Black Pink) dropped her first ever single, successfully making her solo debut. The track, fittingly titled “SOLO,” chronicles the story of a girl breaking free of a toxic relationship to focus on loving herself again.
In the music video (and artsy teasers that came before), Jennie flexes more of her “shining solo” star power, serving us angel wings, Chanel body suits, and electric blue statement eyes… all in under three minutes. Given Black Pink’s track record for keeping eyes glued to the screen, we can’t say we’re surprised—of course YG’s princess would make being single look this good.

So, whether you’re solo by choice or by chance, take a page out of Jennie’s bad gal bible: slip into your favorite red dress, get pretty, and flash your pearly whites. After all, we may not all be idol-perfect, but we can certainly love ourselves like we are. Turn heads like Jennie, below!

Keep your base simple by applying a sheer layer of luminous foundation to even out your skin tone. For dark circles and spots, use a few dabs of lightweight concealer. To give yourself a natural, bronzy glow, brush bronzer into the hollows of your cheeks and around the perimeter of your face. Finish off with a swipe or two of cream highlighter over your cheekbones and nose bridge.

Pick up a neutral peachy shadow and apply the color over your lids, just until you hit the edge of your eye socket. Subtly define your eyes by tight-lining with charcoal shadow. Lastly, curl your lashes and sweep a coat of black mascara over them for a doll-like finish.

Fill in the sparse areas of your brows with a skinny brow pencil in a shade that matches your hair. To feather your brows, run a brow gel through your arches and disperse the product with a clean spoolie while brushing up.

For this, alternate between a small, cone tip eyeshadow brush and an angled liner brush for application. With your brushes, pick up a brow or shadow color in a medium brown shade. Lightly dot the product all over your cheek and nose area, varying the shades and sizes to make them look more natural. Repeat until you’ve achieved your desired look. With a sponge, dab on the “freckles” to seamlessly blend them into your skin.

Apply your signature red as you normally do, but finish it off by softly blurring the edges of your lippie.
