Cleaning your makeup brushes is a must—we repeat, M-U-S-T. The practice not only removes bacteria and prevents pimply skin, it also prolongs the lifespan of each tool. But what most folks don’t know is that washing your brushes the wrong way can compromise their quality. You’ve got to be equally thorough and gentle! To ensure your bristles never shed off and none of your tools lose their shape, here’s the best method we’ve found for brush cleaning. Shall we begin?
STEP 1: Wet the bristles with lukewarm water. Avoid wetting the brush head to prevent the disintegration of the glue binding the bristles to your brush. STEP 2: Dispense a coin-sized amount of brush cleaner in your hand. For brushes that are especially dirty, you may add a small amount of olive oil to the mix. STEP 3: Massage the tips of the bristles in the palm of your hand, swirling them through the cleaning solution at the same time. STEP 4: Rinse off the residue. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until the water runs clear. STEP 5: Squeeze out any excess water with a paper towel, reshaping your brush head in the process. STEP 6: Lay your brushes out on a hand towel to dry. You can also hang them over the edge of a table to preserve their shape and prevent wetting the base.
