Your brows can be your trickiest features to perfect—which is why we brought you the first part of this story. When trying to whip those arches into shape, the list of things a girl shouldn’t do is practically never-ending. But when you’re brow-obsessed, giving up is never an option. So in the spirit of improvement, here are 5 more brow mistakes to avoid, as well as their smart fixes!

As satisfying as it is to pluck wayward brow hairs, it’s easy to go overboard, too. Before you know it, plucking “a little off the top” can leave you with bald spots and wispy-thin arches. Yikes!

THE FIX: Once you’ve over-plucked, there’s no solution but time. While you’re waiting for your brows to grow back, you can count on heavy-duty brow gels to save you. These formulas are budge-proof, so you won’t have to worry about any sparseness peeking through.

Korean straight brows and supermodel boy-brows inspire envy like no other. But when you’re not born with the face shape for these styles, forcing them on yourself can lead to unflattering results.

THE FIX: When in doubt, get your brows mapped. This professional technique, made famous by Benefit, will trace out the brow shape that is most flattering to your face. Then, for maintenance, simply follow your natural shape when filling them in.

Longer brows aren’t always equal to better brows. In this case, brows that are way drawn beyond their natural length can give the face a droopy appearance. Too-long brows can also make your eyes seem disproportionately small.

THE FIX: Your brows should end where they’ll give your face a lift. For reference, trace an invisible straight line from your nostril to the side of your eye. Where that line ends on your brow bone should be where your tail ends, as well.

Even the best brow product in the most appropriate shade can look all wrong if you skip the blending. Without this crucial step, you’re likely to end up with brows that look unnaturally opaque and overdrawn.

THE FIX: After filling in your brows, be sure to run a clean spoolie through them to seamlessly blend the product in. If you’re a busy bee, opt for brow mascaras instead—these apply color and blend it out in the same stroke.

There’s no getting around it: if you want perfect brows, you need to invest in the right tools. Trust us, this is one area where you can’t just opt for whatever’s on hand. That’s how bad brows happen!

THE FIX: Brow spoolies, angled brushes, combs, clippers—there’s an entire world of brow tools to dive into, so don’t be shy. We suggest starting with duo brushes, which have a different tool on each end. There’s no beating how convenient (not to mention, economical) they are!
