The dilemmas never end for #TeamOilySkin. Not only is it a struggle to keep your makeup from sliding off your face, even choosing the wrong moisturizer can turn you into a total grease ball. That said, it’s still no excuse to skimp out on one of the most basic parts of a skincare routine! In fact, we’ll even try some out for you so that the thought doesn’t even cross your mind. How so? The best way we know how, of course! Test them out.

The main goal here? Seriously hydrated skin without blotting a million times a day. Quite the challenge, we’ll admit! But don’t worry, we’ve got our bases covered. Straying away from rich and creamy formulas, we’ve picked out 3 promising, lightweight moisturizers that we believe to be the best bets to try at the office. From first impressions and midday updates to our final thoughts about each one, scroll down to see the results!

For this test, we’ll be trying 3 different lightweight moisturizers on girls from the BeautyMNL office. Kathy, Alyanna, and Nisee, all oily skin types, will be testing the products and applying their respective formulas on bare faces. (They can apply makeup after, but no retouching!) Since the test will run for 8 hours, we’ll be checking in and let them blot only once after four hours and once again at the end of day. After 8 hours, we’ll have them share their thoughts to see which ones made their faces feel hydrated, appear more matte (or more dewy), and share how much makeup was left. Will any of them make a difference? Let’s find out!

1. Neogen Code 9 Glacial Magic Pore Gel, P690
Refreshing, lightweight, and controls sebum? Sounds too good to be true, but apparently this water-based gel has what it takes to be any oily girl’s go-to moisturizer. For one, it’s made with an oil-free formula so there are less chances for you to get greasy during the day. Also, it’s infused with 100% Canadian glacial water and hyaluronic acid that allows the gel to sink in quickly and easily, all while delivering the major hydration boost your skin needs. Sign us up!

3. Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, P800
Aloe vera may be a staple in most skincare routines thanks to its soothing properties, but it also doubles as a great moisturizer. It’s lightweight, has a gel-type consistency, isn’t sticky nor heavy, and is easily absorbed by the skin. What’s more, this one from Benton is paired with propolis to keep pores unclogged. (A win-win for all the oily and acne-prone people out there!) Needless to say, we’re willing to bet that this is the summer moisturizer to beat.

Now, let’s test them on the BeautyMNL girls, below!

Neogen Code 9 Glacial Magic Pore Gel, P690
“The moisturizer actually feels good on my face. It’s not too heavy and not as sticky as I expected it to be. I can’t say that it’s totally matte since there’s a bit of shine on my forehead, my cheeks, and my nose, even if it’s not oily. It’s light. I think it does the job of moisturizing my skin. I was expecting it to have a cooling sensation, but unfortunately there’s nothing. As I was putting on my makeup, it [felt] really seamless. I didn’t put on any primer, but I could see that it set well and that it’s really smooth. The effect is as if I put on primer. I have high hopes for this product. After putting on makeup, it doesn’t feel oily at all, and I can see that there’s a dewy finish that I really like. - Kathy

Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion, P1040
“Definitely feels very hydrating, and it’s so lightweight. It’s unlike the other moisturizers that I’ve used. I thought that it would feel very heavy because it was sticky at first, but then it dried down pretty fast and right now it feels as if I have nothing at all on my face. This moisturizer [makes my skin appear] a bit more dewy than the usual that I use. It’s not as matte as I thought it would be.” - Alyanna

Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, P800
“Well it feels like it sinks well with my skin and it does dry quickly. I actually look more dewy than the usual. It’s different, like a healthier shine. Like my skin is a little brighter than the usual. It feels really light and I feel like my skin is super hydrated now, hence the glow.” - Nisee

Neogen Code 9 Glacial Magic Pore Gel, P690
“Surprisingly, even if my whole face is oily right now, I don’t think my makeup moved at all, and I don’t think it faded anywhere. I think the difference from my makeup this morning and now, is that now it’s ten time more dewy. If I were in Korea, all of the women would envy my face. With my usual moisturizer, I usually blot around this time of day and use 3-4 blotting sheets, so I guess this one is *more impressive in a sense that I* only used 2 blotting sheets. After I used those oil films, it isn’t too bad. I still feel like my skin is pretty hydrated and I don’t see any patchy skin on my face.” - Kathy

Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion, P1040
“[My skin is] more matte than usual. It’s not as oily as I thought it would be. I mean by this time of the day, I would already feel the need to blot, but as of now I feel like it’s still okay. Whatever makeup I had from this morning is still pretty much the same. It’s a bit oily, but again, it’s not as [oily as] my usual. It’s definitely a lot better.” - Alyanna

Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, P800
“Usually [there] would be concentrated oil on my T-zone, so that portion is just super shiny. Now, it’s like my entire face is just a little dewy and glowing. I actually do [like it], because it kind of makes my face brighter now. If it’s too matte it looks a little dull, so I would prefer this over matte any day, or even my normal oily skin. Surprisingly no [makeup has smudged, creased, or faded]! It’s still perfectly intact, it’s not fading, and it seems like I just placed it 5 minutes ago. I was surprised to see that this blotting sheet picked up much less oil than when I’d blot my face on a normal day.” - Nisee

BEST FOR: A well-hydrated base for makeup

“I feel like this is more of a nighttime moisturizer than a morning moisturizer. It delivers the hydration and moisturizing effect, but it might be too heavy for the morning. As much as it delivers its claims, I feel like it only controls your sebum and oil up to a certain extent. It did say it was perfect for achieving a flawless and dewy finish for your skin, and I do believe it gave me a flawless base for my makeup. Although as the day went by, I feel like it made me feel a bit oilier than I usually am. I’ll try this moisturizer again at night. (See the overnight update in the video!) Other than that, this moisturizer isn’t sticky at all and it did deliver its promise of moisturizing my face. It’s just that maybe either 1) my skin is just too oily or 2) this would be best to use at night instead. Even if it was prescribed for oily skinned girls, I do believe that even people with dry or combination skin could also try this as well.” - Kathy

Cosrx Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion, P1040
BEST FOR: A supple face with minimized shine

“I love it. It feels hydrating and it’s perfect for people who have oily skin like me. It really kept my face moisturized throughout the day but at the same time, it wasn’t as oily as I thought it’d be. It just really helped me maintain my overall look for the day, like my makeup was set pretty well and I didn’t feel the need to blot as much as I would on a regular day. I do think that I would still have to blot, but I think a single sheet would do [instead of my usual] 3-4 sheets. So yeah! I think that this is great when it comes to controlling sebum and oil. I’d consider purchasing this moisturizer as soon as my regular one runs out, it really did wonders for my skin today.” - Alyanna

Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel, P800
BEST FOR: Brighter skin and an overall glow

“It’s good! Like I’m still not as oily as I would have been if I didn’t put on the moisturizer. It made my makeup stay longer than usual. I actually only blotted once today and on average I would probably blot 2-3 times a day. Usually when I blot [with] the sheet it’s really transparent, but now it’s barely transparent. What I really like about this product is that it’s super lightweight, aside from [the fact] that it’s obvious my T-Zone is less oily now. So yeah! It’s a great product.” - Nisee
