When you’re an adult woman with a T-Zone that can rival a hormonal tween’s, picking a face powder can be frustrating. Powder cakes, creases, and settles into fine lines. And if it isn’t an industrial-strength powder, the excess oil on an oily girl’s face will suck it all up. But who can live without powder when facing fickle Philippine weather?

In our experience, there are three qualities a good powder should possess, whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin. Number one, it should be lightweight. Number two, it should never settle into the cracks and crevices of your face. And number three, it should stay put no matter what.
This week, we’re testing a powder that hails all the way from South Korea: the Banila Co. Prime Primer Finish Pact, which is a bit of a cult product in its home country. Will it be the shine-zapper of every Filipina’s wildest dreams?

To test it, we asked one of the girls on the BeautyMNL team to wear it for an entire day. Simultaneously, we documented the product’s performance right after application, at mid-day, and after an 8-hour stint at the office.

Take a look at the results:

Not bad, right? Mind you, no touch-ups were permitted at any given time during this experiment, so we were impressed!

LOOK: This translucent powder leaves behind a soft-focus matte finish, which mimics the finish of natural skin. Flat-matte powders tend to bunch up over the greasiest parts of the face and accentuate the size of large pores (which are common with oily/combi folks). Thus, this new development was welcome.

FEEL & FORMULA: In true K-beauty fashion, the powder is designed not only to absorb excess oil but also to care for the skin. Its special sebum control formula neutralizes the T-Zone while still keeping the skin moisturized. This is what will spell the difference between an oil slick and a luminous yet non-shiny look. Also, in case you were wondering, it applies like silk and wears very comfortably.
VERSATILITY: The powder can be used as the finishing touch to your makeup, or when you’re lazy, completely alone. As with its superstar sister product, Banila Co.’s Prime Primer, this powder improves a makeup-less appearance by smoothing out your skin texture without leaving a trace. This is a wonderful thing when you want to look like your natural, off-duty self, just with a better complexion.

So, did the Prime Primer Finish Pact keep every single molecule of natural oil at bay? Not every one—but it certainly prevented that ate-too-much-ramen-last-night look, which is more than we can say for most. Nothing a quick touch-up can’t fix, right?
