Personally, I’m not the type of girl who gets regular monthly facials. After reading countless skincare blogs, I have somewhat concluded that facials can do more harm than good if you don’t follow a strict post-facial skincare regimen. And who has the time? I don’t want to thin out my skin with diamond peels, even if they do seem harmless and are totally the norm nowadays.
Having said all that, I must admit that there is one facial treatment that made me rethink my stance. It got me really curious—can’t-stop-researching-about-it curious. That facial is none other than Revlite, a skin-resurfacing laser treatment that supposedly doesn’t hurt. Much.
Thanks to a deal I scored off of Deal Grocer’s Beauty Category, I was lucky enough to book a Revlite appointment at the Skinlux Aesthetic Center. Read on to find out how my very first laser session went!
Skinlux Aesthetic Center is conveniently located in Greenhills Promenade. Upon entering, I was instantly impressed with the all-white, minimal interiors. The whole place just screamed clean, safe, and sterile. I already felt like I was in great hands, just from the look of the clinic alone!
Skinlux exclusively uses Nelly De Vuyst products for their facials. If you didn’t know already, Nelly De Vuyst is a very high-end skincare brand from Brussels, Belgium. It has a longstanding reputation as one of the most effective anti-aging and corrective lines on the market and is compatible with all medical aesthetic practices! (And by the way, it’s available right here on BeautyMNL.)
When I arrived, I was immediately in line to consult with the dermatologist-on-duty before my Revlite treatment. This consultation was meant to ensure that I didn’t have any skin allergies that might trigger a bad reaction during or after the treatment.
Following the consultation, I was ushered into one of the pristine treatment rooms for the Revlite treatment, to be conducted by the dermatologist herself. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories, so I would be much more hesitant to get lasered by a therapist (even a registered nurse). I am definitely pleased that Skinlux only lets doctors handle these laser treatments on patients.
So, exactly what did I get myself into? Revlite is a non-invasive laser treatment that stimulates collagen to brighten, plump, and smoothen your skin in a jiffy. The “non-invasive” part means that there’s no downtime. No need to remain hidden inside your bedroom for days and days because of the “ugly phase” of old-school lasering. That ugly phase no longer applies.
According to the dermatologist, the Revlite laser emits very short flashes of light, called pulses. The impact of the energy from a powerful light pulse is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band. After the treatment, the lasered area will feel slightly sore, similar to the sensation caused by a light sunburn. Some people with sensitive skin can get red right after the treatment, but normally, any redness disappears within the day.
After a short wait, my Revlite treatment officially started. I expected it to be quite painless—at least, that’s what I hoped (I’ve tried other laser treatments that were downright unpleasant). Here’s the truth: Revlite does have that rubber band snap at the start, but you get used to it with each pass of the laser. It’s a tolerable kind of stinging. I’d say a Brazilian wax hurts far more. The dermatologist increased the number of passes over the areas where I had more blemishes and acne marks, so those were the areas that stung the most.
The Revlite laser has different levels of intensity for different blemish treatments. The lower levels deliver general skin rejuvenation, such as instant brightening and plumping. The middle levels are meant to target intense acne marks, lesions, and age spots. And the higher levels can actually remove tattoos! Depending on what you’re having treated, a session can go on for up to 45 minutes.
My treatment used only the lower levels, so it was quite fast. Including the Skinlux Signature Facial, which involved slathering my face in Nelly De Vuyst’s foamy Bulmask, the whole thing was over in 20 minutes. By the way, the mask is completely optional—I just wanted to do something to purify my pores before the Revlite treatment.
And now, for the results: with just one session, I was able to see an instant change!
My skin was definitely smoother, plumper, and more taut, and my overall complexion was noticeably brighter. Because the treatment is virtually pain-free and has no downtime (you can apply makeup right after!), I can see why Revlite is so addicting. And while it comes with a hefty price tag, I particularly love that Skinlux Aesthetic Center offers its Revlite treatment for much less than most clinics do. Definitely coming back for my second, third, nth sessions!
