Not long ago, the thought of matchy-matchy outfits and makeup would horrify professionals in the industry. But these days, color-coordination is the way to go!
Blame it on the big ’90s comeback that just keeps on giving. Just review all the trends that walked off the runways in Paris and New York and the hottest red carpet action in Hollywood: you’ll see that going monochromatic is très chic! Using a single tone (or pattern) from top to toe just keeps the look tight and put-together—not baduy as what was previously thought. Think: Taylor Swift’s co-ords, J.Lo’s pantsuits, etcera, etcera.
Beauty-wise, I’m thinking what better way to experiment with this trend than with your lips and tips? I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: lipstick and nail lacquer are now so much more adventurous. They come in a whole array of colors never even thought of before! Plus, commitment to the pop of color can be short-term, and it’s also very affordable—so don’t be afraid to treat yourself. Now, let’s play!
A classic look to try is red-on-red. I love how my lippie from NARS gives a matte finish, while my nail polish (c/o Seche) is glossy, so it provides that extra dimension. Offset the vixen feel of this va-va-voom color by pairing it with a masculine outfit.

DON’T BLINK PINK
One of my favorite colors for both my nails and lips is fuchsia. It gives my skin tone just enough brightness without making me look gray, which some vivid hues tend to do for morena skin. I love pairing this bright pink with another bold color—like my royal blue top, for instance. See the subtle color-blocking effect?

Rosy-mauve is a great nude-pink tint for both lips and nails. It’s neutral enough to be paired with various outfits, but has just enough color to ensure it stands out in a crowd. Tip: This hue picks up golds and beiges really well.
