The Editors Answer: How to Reduce Blackheads + More Customer Questions
Every day, we get questions from our customers about all things beauty. It can be anything, from which products we personally swear by to exactly how to use them for best results. So this week, the BeautyMNL Editors are answering a few inquiries that came in through the mail. By that, of course, we mean our email: firstname.lastname@example.org. There’s no Q too big or too small, too strange or too simplistic, so keep ‘em coming, beautiful!
HOW DO YOU REDUCE BLACKHEADS?
Yanna: “What product or face masks can you suggest to lessen blackheads?”
ANSWER: Before we dive into treatment, let’s clarify exactly what blackheads are. Blackheads are a mild type of acne caused by an accumulation of dirt, oil, and dead skin cells, all of which are clogging your pores. Those black dots you see on your skin? They’re actually the result of a process called oxidization. The gunk inside your pores isn’t actually black—it’s clear. But when exposed to oxygen, it eventually darkens in color. Hence, the term “blackhead.”
Now, on to the fun part! A simple blackhead routine can be pared down to two main steps: a chemical exfoliant followed by a clay mask.
Chemical exfoliants contain natural acids, such as BHAs and AHAs, that loosen up the dirt trapped inside your pores. This makes them easier to dislodge without using unnecessary force on the skin. Always let a chemical exfoliant sit for at least 15 minutes or longer to let the acids take effect.
Then, this is where clay masks come in. Made with powerful absorbent properties, these masks draw out impurities from your pores just like a vacuum cleaner would. Just leave the formula on your skin for the recommended time, and voila! A deep pore detox in just a few minutes.
Use these two products in tandem at least twice a week. While there’s no way to banish blackheads permanently, consistent cleansing keeps your pores as clear as possible. Don’t forget to moisturize after, too!

WHAT’S THE BEST EYESHADOW FOR BROWN EYES?
Lex: “Which eyeshadow shades will make brown eyes pop?”
ANSWER: If you’re a brown-eyed beauty, consider yourself lucky. You can wear pretty much every color of eyeshadow there is. Of course, there are certain shades that really accentuate the chestnut and honey undertones of your eyes. Gold and copper, in particular, complement the rich complexities of your irises. You can swipe them on for any occasion—whether you’re in the office or out on the town.
Now, keep in mind that your options aren’t limited to the neutral spectrum. We also recommend experimenting with cobalts and eggplants. These bold hues contrast beautifully against a coffee-colored gaze. They make the browns of your eyes stand out more and the whites of your eyes look brighter.
