Every day, we get questions from our customers about all things beauty. It can be about anything, from which products we personally swear by to exactly how to use them for best results. So this week, the BeautyMNL Editors are answering a few inquiries that came in through the mail. By that, of course, we mean our email: email@example.com. There’s no Q too big or too small, too strange or too simplistic, so keep ‘em coming, beautiful!
HOW DO YOU CREATE THE DRUNK BLUSH LOOK?
Jen: “I’m very minimal when it comes to makeup, but I want to do something that will change up my look without too much effort. Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of celebs wearing the drunk blush look. It just looks like a different spin on everyday makeup. Can you tell me how to do this?”
ANSWER: Blush is one of those products that can instantly change your face. It enhances the skin, cancels out dullness, and creates the illusion of health and vitality. Depending on your application, it can also set the mood for your entire look. Take, for instance, the drunk blush technique!
Popularized by makeup artist Igari Shinobu and alternatively known as “hangover makeup,” this Japanese trend is different from any other blush look you’ve seen before. It involves applying blush right under the eyes and over the nose. This mimics the way your skin naturally flushes after one too many drinks—and it made some serious waves in the beauty world last year. Look, even Nadine Lustre tried it!
While some may see it as a passing fad, drunk blush is a really, really pretty look in our book. The unique wash of color elevates your everyday vibe without going over the top and adds a kind of sweetness to the face. So, if you’re in the mood to turn things up a notch (minus the booze), this blush is for you.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
1. A cheek tint. TRY: Benefit Benetint, P1,900. Shop it here.
2. A powder blush in a similar color. TRY: Detail MakeOver Bloom Matte Blush in Independent, P180. Shop it here.
3. A liquid highlighter. TRY: Banila Co. So Strobing Pen, P865. Shop it here.
HOW TO DO IT
STEP 1: Using a cream or liquid tint, evenly dot pigment over your cheeks. The dots should form a horizontal C-shape. Start from the highest point of your cheekbones, swoop under your eyes, and apply all the way to the sides of your nose.
TRY: Benefit Benetint, P1,900. Shop it here.
STEP 2: Blend the pigment out with your fingers.
STEP 3: To enhance and seal the tint, apply a layer of powder blush over it.
TRY: Detail MakeOver Bloom Matte Blush in Independent, P180. Shop it here.
STEP 4: Next, sweep the color lightly across the bridge of your nose. This creates a continuous “cheek-to-cheek” flush and also brings color to the center of your face.
STEP 5: For extra glow, dab liquid highlighter over the tops of your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose.
TRY: Banila Co. So Strobing Pen, P865. Shop it here.
After that, just apply the rest of your makeup as usual!
No hangover, no problem. Try the drunk blush look today!
