Every day, we get questions from our customers about all things beauty. It can be about anything, from which products we personally swear by to exactly how to use them for best results. So this week, the BeautyMNL Editors are answering a few inquiries that came in through the mail. By that, of course, we mean our email: firstname.lastname@example.org. There’s no Q too big or too small, too strange or too simplistic, so keep ‘em coming, beautiful!
HOW DO YOU PREVENT MAKEUP FROM CAKING?
Nica: “No matter what I do, my makeup still ends up flakey and cake-y, especially around my eyes and nose! I already have oily skin and didn’t think it would be a problem. How do I fix this?”
ANSWER: We’ve all been there. You can do everything right and still have your makeup pill and flake in the most obvious places. But the good news? You don’t need to revamp your entire routine to prevent it. Just the smallest tweaks in prep and application can make all the difference. Below, see 4 easy ways to keep your makeup cake-proof!
1. MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE
First thing’s first: moisturize your skin before all else. Simply scoop out a coin-sized amount of moisturizer. Evenly spread it over your skin, then pat everything in with the pads of your palms.
As long as your canvas is smooth and properly prepped, anything you apply on top should sit seamlessly. It’s the most basic way to ensure flaw-free makeup!

2. BUFF OUT YOUR FOUNDATION
Caking is often caused by uneven application of base makeup. To remedy this, use a dense face brush to buff your foundation into your skin. Make sure to really work it in using upward, circular motions.
By doing this, you get an even layer of makeup all over and a more airbrushed finish, too!

3. DAB YOUR SKIN WITH A MOIST SPONGE
Once your foundation has been applied, remove any excess product using a damp makeup sponge. Simply dab the sponge all over your face. Focus on crevices where foundation tends to crease, such as your undereyes and around the nose.
The dampness of the sponge will both pick up excess pigment from the surface and allow your base to set and adhere better to your skin.

4. MIST YOUR FACE POST-APPLICATION
Last but not least, top everything off with a moisturising mist. Hold the bottle at half an arm’s length away. Then, spray your face from all sides.
This veil of hydration will not only help set your makeup, it’ll also meld everything into one seamless layer and prevent any flakey patches.
