What makes a great Pond’s Philippines Ambassador? Beauty, brains, and the forbearance towards sunbathing sans SPF, if we’re to look at Joey Mead-King. The straight-talking supermodel is one of the four new stars fronting Pond’s Change Is Beautiful campaign, and we personally think it’s a match made in heaven.
Change is a recurring theme in Joey’s life—yes, in beauty, but also beyond. In fact, she discussed it at length when BeautyMNL chatted with her at the campaign’s launch event. Inspiring, infectiously energetic, and above all, resilient, Joey will always (and we do mean always) be our #girlcrush. Keep reading for her truly effective skincare routine and her opinion on aging “fantastically.”

ON THE BEST SKINCARE ADVICE SHE’S EVER GOTTEN

JOEY: “Working in the fashion and beauty industry ever since I was 15, you meet a lot of people who know how someone can look their best. So already at a young age, I was warned about not spending so much time in the sun. That’s hard to say to a 15-year-old beach lover, but I believed it when I started seeing changes already at 27.”

ON HER MORNING AND EVENING BEAUTY ROUTINES

JOEY: “It’s very simple. In the morning, it’s just a simple washing of your face. [Then] make sure you have the right creams to wear under your makeup, and [make] sure it is sun-savvy. Pond’s Age Miracle has a two-package where you use the Day Cream, wear your makeup, and then, you are fine for the whole day. And at nighttime, same thing [with the Night Cream]! Just wash your face—Pond’s has a Facial Wash, too—and then what I really like a lot [after that] is eye cream. Retinol is in their creams, and retinol is a savior. It’s something that is so simple but can brighten up your skin with just you sleeping.”

ON THE ONE PRODUCT SHE CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT

JOEY: “It’s eye cream. The Pond’s Age Miracle Eye Cream is perfect because I travel—a lot. So, when you’re in planes, you get really dehydrated. I notice that if I just put a little bit of eye cream and drink a lot of water, I’m good to go. I can easily keep that in my bag at all times. I like it because it’s such a nice, little sheen layer of cream [but] it gives me enough moisture…especially for long haul flights.”

ON HER BIGGEST SKINCARE BLESSING

JOEY: “I think I have resilient skin. Working as a VJ, and then moving on to modelling and TV, I’ve seen every facet of what things can do to our skin. So, I think I’ve got great resilience when it comes to that work. For a 42-year-old, I think I’m doing okay. I don’t do Botox, I am very cool with how I’m going to turn out, and I want to keep everything fuss-free. I want to be with a brand who really caters to different facets of woman—and I consider myself an extremely interesting facet-typed woman.”

ON AGING GRACEFULLY

JOEY: “You know what, they say that all the time: ‘Aging gracefully.’ Why don’t they say, ‘aging fantastically?’ I don’t consider myself a very graceful woman. I consider myself a woman with a lot of sass… I think when you’ve got an abundance of sass and personality or character, it doesn’t matter what age you are, or if you’re going to age gracefully. You’re going to age, and going to do amazingly. Gracefully is like, ‘Give me a wheelchair.’ No, babe! No way—I’m not going to be like that. I’m going to be amazing at 50, and even better at 60—and I’m just 42.”
