For many of us, energy healing is a term that’s often met with curiosity. When Isabelle Daza recently posted an IG story about an energy healing session that was able to fix her shoulder pain, we couldn’t help but be intrigued. How was she able to feel instant relief after one session?

We reached out to Nathan Alba, the certified energy medicine practitioner who healed her. In an exclusive interview with BeautyMNL, he shares his own personal journey on energy healing and self-care advice. Here’s what he had to say!

Nathan’s inspiration came from the anime Avatar: The Legend of Aang and Naruto. At the young age of 12, he researched on the internet on how to manage or manipulate energy with his cousin. There was always one thing that all his findings led to: the art of meditation.

At first, he started meditating for 5 minutes a week. This eventually led to 10 minutes the next week, and so forth until they reached an hour of meditation. Although challenging, he noticed how it was able help him think more clearly.

When he was 16, he started attending workshops and enrolling to different energy healing courses. After understanding that energy exists in the world, everything changed for him. He realized that whether you’re aware of it or not, energy is determined by the kind of life you bring in to your experience.

“It opened my eyes into a whole different world. It sparked inside of me that there’s more to life than what we know and what we’re told.”

And the more Nathan learned, the more he experienced the benefits. It helped calmed his thoughts and improved his focus. But more importantly, he ultimately realized that it’s part of his life purpose to empower people and awaken their deeper knowing and understanding of who they are. Aside from private sessions, he holds retreats and classes for different types of energy healing. He’s also part of Atma Prema Wellbeing Group that’s headed by Dr. Lia Bernardo. They offer wellbeing services to companies to help train and empower their employees.

Energy medicine is an ancient form of natural medicine that restores the flow of energy in the body through healing the mind, body, and spirit. There are a lot of different of modalities or approaches under energy medicine: theta healing, pranic healing, hypnosis, acupuncture and reiki to name a few.

While a lot of people have stigmatised energy medicine, Nathan stressed that it has existed since the ancient times—and it continues to thrive! Even traditional Chinese medicine, he says, utilizes energy healing by knowing where the subtle energies flow in the bodies.

Energy medicine helps shift transform unhealthy patterns in the mind. In an energy healing session, the practitioner enables the client to understand themselves and awaken a different sense of purpose. They also learn to appreciate themselves, and not be overtly critical or judge too much. Afterwards, the client feels rejuvenated, recharged, and inspired to go back to their lives again. Sometimes, like in Belle Daza’s case, it can help alleviate body pain as well!

So, is there anything we can do to help ‘heal’ ourselves? Yes, there is! Here are Nathan’s 4 nuggets of self-care wisdom below.

When we experience aches and pains, our body is trying to tell us something. A lot of people who have liver problems, for example, hold a lot of resentment and anger. Heart problems are caused by a lack of love. Headaches or migraines are triggered by overthinking or feeling overwhelmed. Shoulder pain means that we are burdened with our own or other people’s baggage.

Nathan says that a lot of people burn out because they’re not giving themselves rest. People need to learn to accept that giving themselves some time off is not wrong. If you continue to go all out, you’re more likely to burn out and you won’t be produce quality output.

Celebrate the little successes that happen in your life, and you’ll really be able to enjoy the big ones. Whether it’s giving yourself a pat in the back or even a trip to the spa or a weekend vacation, these rewards can help push you to achieve better and greater things in the long run. It’s just as important to set the intention that you are doing this as an act of love towards yourself.

Self-care is about creating a space and time where you can nurture yourself the best way you can. According to Nathan, it has to be a holistic approach that addresses the body, mind and spirit:

Body: Nourish yourself with clean and healthy food. Also, movement is just as important. Do something active that you genuinely enjoy.

Mind: Talk to yourself with love and compassion. Do not be too hard on ourselves when you make a mistake. You have to be compassionate towards yourself.

Spirit: This is unique to every individual. How do you strengthen your relationship with the Divine? Prayer and meditation. Prayer is a declaration of love to the Divine, while meditation is listening to the Divine.

“When you glow on the inside, you will be at your most beautiful on the outside. It is important to take good care of your internal state as well as your external. It can’t just be one or the other. It works together to bring out the best and most authentic you.”
