Confession: I’ve long been out of the BB cream loop, because I prefer to go light on my makeup base nowadays. BB creams, or blemish balms, are multi-tasking, all-in-one treatments that cover blemishes while at the same time moisturizing, protecting, and nourishing the skin on your face. The average BB cream formula is designed to oxidize, slowly blending in and matching the wearer’s skin tone the longer it’s worn. This is the argument behind the extremely limited shades.
Remember Maybelline’s original BB cream, the version in the baby green tube? It was called the Clear Smooth Minerals BB Cream, and I personally found it to have such a light coverage, it felt more like a tinted moisturizer than anything else. Now, what I have in my hand is a higher-coverage, higher SPF, and certainly more highly refined version: the Super BB Cream.

Besides boasting of full coverage, this revolutionary new BB cream has another super power: a Mineral Guard Filter that shields your face against pollution. On to the review!
First, let’s talk about texture, color, and consistency. Compared to the BB creams I’ve tried in the past, this is a bit runnier, less greyish in tone, and formulated with more opaque coverage. The coverage is extremely good —so much so, that in the photos below, I didn’t even have to use any concealer to hide my red spots or dark circles. It hides pores extremely well, too. I’m just going to pause here so we can all say this at the same time: I know, right?!

There are two shades available for this BB Cream: 01 Natural and 02 Medium.
Next, application! I used 01 Natural for this review. When freshly applied, as with most BB creams are, you’ll probably feel like this product is too white, almost mask-like, on the skin. But give it a few minutes to set and get exposed to the air, and it’ll adapt to your skin tone really well. During the first few minutes, expect it to look extremely flat and matte—but after an hour, the finish becomes more natural-looking and glowy. It’s not quite skin-like, but you can’t have it all.
The photo on the left shows me with a bare face. The one on the right was taken two minutes after application. After the BB cream blended in with my skin (and I had applied the rest of my makeup) this is how it turned out:
The wear time without powder was a good 6 to 7 hours before I saw any fading. I didn’t find that this had good oil control properties, so for all you girls with oily/combination skin, you should definitely use a primer underneath or set it with a shine-free powder on top.
Here are two of the features I admired most about this BB Cream:

1. It has SPF50 which totally blocks out the UVA/UVB rays of the sun. This fact alone makes it a good everyday product, because apart from makeup coverage, you get maximum sun protection as well.

2. It has a Mineral Guard Filter that traps dirt and other elements of pollution. This keeps them from penetrating your pores, which is ultimately what results in clogging and acne.
In conclusion: for only P399, the Super BB Cream may just have it all. You get full coverage, generous SPF, dirt and pollution protection, as well as easy application with medium wear time. It’s definitely one of those bang-for-your-buck products—and I’d say it’s especially perfect for commuters who encounter Manila smog daily.
