I don’t know if it was my childhood habit of skipping naps or my college habit of pulling all-nighters, but normal sleep patterns evade me now. Naturally, I’m always on the lookout for anything that could help me get my recommended 7 to 8 hours of shut-eye. One-way tickets to Snoozetown, if you will.

That said, I’ve amassed quite a few sleep hacks over the years. I still have some fitful nights and groggy days here and there, but these hacks have cut them down by a lot. Desperate for more zzz’s yourself? Here are 7 of my favorite sleepy-time staples. Good night and good luck!

THE GOOD NIGHT SLEEP GUIDE

1. NIGHTTIME TEA
I like to have my night teas with a splash of warm milk for that extra hit of sleep-inducing melatonin. Chamomile’s my favorite for winding down, but jasmine tea works just as well. When I’m craving citrus, I reach for lemongrass tea. All three have me loose-limbed and sleep-eyed within minutes.

TRY: Lemongrass House Lemongrass Tea Sachet (35g), P515, Manila Superfoods Loose Leaf Jasmine Tea (45g), P135

2. ROOM & LINEN SPRAY
Lavender’s clean, soothing scent gets me sleep-ready every time I get a whiff of it. I especially love it in room spray form because this lets me spritz the scent everywhere, even on my linens. There’s just nothing quite like a bed full of lavender at the end of a long day, y’know?

TRY: BareMNL Room & Linen Spray (250ml) in Clean, P300, Be Organic Bath & Body Lavender Room & Linen Spray, P300

3. SCENTED CANDLE
If you (or your sprinklers) are extra sensitive to the barest hint of smoke, go for beeswax candles. These produce no smoke and unpleasant soot, plus, they work as natural air purifiers. I usually go for spiced vanilla, as its warm, sweet scent makes me feel all cozy! Alternatively, you can opt for soy candles—they’re lighter on the pocket, but relaxing all the same!

TRY: 100% Pure Beeswax Candle in Anise and Vanilla Bliss, P600, Happy Island Candle Co. Lavender Candle (2oz/60ml), P199

4. AROMA DIFFUSER + ESSENTIAL OILS
I wouldn’t call myself an oilbolaryo just yet, but I do love essential oils. So far, I’m loving pure lavender’s effects on my sense of calm. I simply dilute a few drops of it in my room diffuser to chase away the day’s stresses. It also makes quick work of any staleness in the air, so I go to sleep feeling extra refreshed.

TRY: Pure Bliss Ultrasonic Aroma Diffuser, P1,999, Zellaroma Lavender 100% Pure Essential Oil (15ml), P750

5. SOOTHING LOTION
At night, I always reach for my favorite Kala Milk Lotion in (you guessed it!) Lavender. It’s super thick straight out of the bottle, but my skin just drinks it up! The smell, as you can probably imagine, is truly soporific. The lotion also ensures that I wake up feeling soft and hydrated all over, even when I have the AC on full blast.

TRY: Kala Milk Lotion (275ml) in Lavender, P325

6. HIMALAYAN SALT LAMP
This one’s a pretty new addition to my sleep lineup, but it has a lot of promise (which you can read about here). After my week-long road test at the office, I decided to take it home and position it as my new nightlight. So far, I am loving it as a comforting light source and an eye-soothing solution.

TRY: Hima PH Himalayan Salt Lamp (5-7kg), P1,850

7. MELATONIN
When all else fails, there’s always a straight dose of melatonin. I try not to take these supplements often, as regular use can lead to building a tolerance. And I’m not exactly jazzed about its potential side effects (take note, I said potential, not proven). But in a pinch? A few milligrams put me out like a light. Perfect for getting a good night’s rest or surviving long-haul flights!

TRY: Piping Rock Melatonin (250 Tablets), P590
